I know this will be a pointless post but I just feel like typing something and showcasing what I have been doing with a couple of my project cars. Carnage inside!!

To start, the BAD!

Some may know, I have an LS swapped Nothcback I built and have been enjoying it for the last year. Best ET so far is a 10.76 @ 126 naturally aspirated.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The car is awesome but I had decided to sell it because it was “done” in a sense. It had met every goal I ever set for it and I simply wanted to move on and start other projects. The other issue is that it was becoming too much for the street to really just enjoy driving. Sure it was a good highway cruiser but that was all. It became stressful to drive having to worry about large bumps and the anti-roll bar and other stuff. So for sale it went.

After a few weeks I had a buyer who was coming down from Chicago (5 hours away) and was planning to arrive on a Thursday. Nervous and excited on the Wednesday before the day he would arrive I decided to take the car for one last ride and then detail it when I got back. I hopped in the car and headed through town and then down the highway for a quick U-turn and WOT pass back. By the time I was high into 3rd gear it started making bad noises and began hammering to the sound of rod-knock. SHIT! I got home and called the buyer to tell him what went down and advise to hold off before he made the trip. He was very cool about it.

Kinja'd!!!

In the last couple days I have pulled the engine and as I thought it was nasty rod-knock. I only had 1000 miles on this fresh LS2 and apparently the OE gen4 rods just couldn’t handle 7,100 rpm lol. I have seen many rev higher and spray or boost them so I had no worries about them ovaling. Here is the carnage:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

OUCH!

The plan now is new crank and good aftermarket rods. The guy still wants to buy the car and will help out with the parts which is extremely cool of him. I am glad that this happened to me and not him as soon as he got home. I would have felt terrible. Live and learn.

On a brighter note I have really been enjoying another Mustang I have. A 2000 GT in Atlantic Blue! I bought this car to flip as it had the incorrect engine in it, didn’t run, and had been sitting for over 5 years.

Kinja'd!!!

Came with some Prostars that didn’t fit.

Kinja'd!!!

Blasted apart.

I found a 30,000 mile 4.6 with matching auto for a good deal and swapped in the engine. I then sold the auto and old 4.6 that was int he car and nearly broke even! I then traded the wheels and some cash for a set of FR500s!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Back together with the new engine!

On all 4s with the stock faded headlights and stock wing.

Kinja'd!!!

I have been driving this car for a few weeks now and really love it. It looks good, sounds good, and rides good compared to the fox body. Cruise control and a radio are really sweet to have also! I am sitting very well money wise to be able to make a profit even after I put miles on it.

Kinja'd!!!

I bought some factory cobra headlights that my roomate had and swapped the front tires for some lower profile units.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The only other mods I will do will be tint, new front bumper, mach1 chin splitter and grille delete and probably have the spoiler holes filled and painted. The transmission may get a rebuild but we will see how it lasts.

Overall I am really happy about this car and it makes what happened to the Notchback a lot less painful. Hopefully the notch is fixed and sold soon so I can buy a cheap 86 RX7 in sight of my work for a mega budget auto-x car for the summer! Anyway, that wraps up my pointless update in which you all probably don’t care about. I just needed to type I guess!

My username continues to hold true.

Wow, that’s pretty cool of the guy to still be interested in the Fox, and to offer to help. Sounds like this is a guy who will actually enjoy the work you put into it.

That engine bay on the Fox looks CLEAN. That’s the way all engine bays should look. I’m really digging the DPI (Direct PowerAde Injection) ;)

And the other one looks great. Really like the choice of wheels. Out of curiosity, why the spoiler delete? And I think I'm a bit confused. You swapped out a 4.6 for a 4.6? How was one wrong but the other one wasn't?

Holy shit, I can’t believe that bearing just went out like that! You’ve got some damn cool mustangs there.

Where in Missouri are you? I live in St Louis.

Yea I think he realizes how much heart I put into this thing. He is getting a really good car.

LOL on the DPI, it was a nod to the Honda guys as I always thought it was funny. I actually went out and bought a green poweraid to use for added authenticity! It is always fun at shows as the kids love it.

Spoiler delete actually goes back to a decade ago when I had a 2001 white V6 Mustang of the same body. It had no wing and at first I hated it but after a while it fit the character of the car and myself. Since then I always preferred all my cars wingless!

The 4.6 that was in it was from a 1995 Crown Vic and those had horrible heads, cams, intake. Known as Non-PI (power improved) While i could have made it work I didn’t like the idea. This engine raises the value of the car.

Nice. Realized that the last wrenching I ever did (if you can call it that) was to change the oil and canister filter on my ‘87 300D. That was in 1991.

Well I actually want to do a stock rebuild on the 13B and completely gut the car. Some cheap coil-overs and cheap mustang wheels with sticky tires. Then abuse on a daily basis!

After that I had a ‘91 CRX Si, then a ‘97 SHO, but I had those serviced at a garage. Now I have no car due to where I live.

Pretty easy to do, add sticky tires and some drag struts and add horsepower :)

Anyway, that wraps up my pointless update in which you all probably don’t care about.

These types of posts are GREAT OPPO and I love reading them.

Never hesitate to post one of these.

Also, I always, always, prefer the look of that generation Mustang with the Spoiler removed.

I’m not exactly a moderator or anything but I have been around here for quite a while (probably about 5 years or so) and I say that’s great OPPO, keep these types of posts coming when you have the time!

Any reason why you kept a 4.6L instead of going bigger when you swapped motor on it?

Kinja'd!!! mycarneverruns87 > MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner
02/25/2016 at 16:11

Kinja'd!!!0

Well I wasn’t looking to make another racecar as i already have one. Everything was there to be a direct drop in which is what i was after. A 4.6 SOCH is never worth modding for power as the money spent will never equal the power you wish you would gain. Even with forced induction

Well, I knew you couldn’t do much with the 4.6L so that’s why I was curious you kept it.

I suppose you’re right though, you already have a race car. It’s not like it’s SLOW with the 4.6L in it.

Not mega slow but it isn’t fast either but thats not why I bought it. Just a good cruiser to enjoy the drive in

People have been asking me about power mods on my 68 Montego. I’m not doing much power wise for a reason. It’s not a drag car, I just want to cruise to car shows and ride around. I don’t need 600hp to do that. So if anyone gets that, I do.

Kinja'd!!! mycarneverruns87 > MontegoMan562 is a Capri RS Owner

Exactly, I am not out to prove anything to anybody except for myself. I love a good racecar but they make for a terrible cruiser. V8 torque/noise+5-speed+RWD = fun no matter the power.

Luckily this one has the engine but it needs a refresh as all of them do. The car is very solid and I’m stealing it for $500.

Some may know, I have an LS swapped Nothcback I built and have been enjoying it for the last year.

Clearly the engine problems were both the engine and car reacting to the unholy union of a GM powerplant in a Ford chassis :-P

I guess both parties just weren’t reeeaaadyyy. Both now have a hugely more exciting life. The car is originally a 4 popper and the LS2 came from the large Trailblazer.
